EBS Pramaan Profenophos 50% Ec

1. Product Overview:
Profenophos 50% EC (Emulsifiable Concentrate) is a broad-spectrum, organophosphate insecticide and acaricide widely used for the control of chewing, sucking, and mite pests in various crops. It acts as a contact and stomach poison, providing quick knockdown action and long-lasting residual control. Profenophos is highly effective against caterpillars, aphids, jassids, thrips, whiteflies, and mites, making it a versatile solution for integrated pest management (IPM) programs.

The EC formulation ensures easy dispersion, enhanced coverage, and penetration, making it suitable for foliar applications.

2. Mode of Action:
Profenophos works through dual mechanisms, making it effective against a variety of pests:

  • Contact and stomach poison:

    • On contact or ingestion, Profenophos disrupts the nervous system of pests.

  • Cholinesterase inhibition:

    • It inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE), which is essential for proper nerve function.

    • This results in the accumulation of acetylcholine, leading to continuous nerve impulses, causing paralysis and eventual death of the pest.

  • Ovicidal and acaricidal properties:

    • Profenophos also exhibits ovicidal action, preventing egg hatching.

    • It effectively controls both adult and immature stages of mites.

  • Residual activity:

    • Provides long-lasting protection by remaining active on the crop surface for an extended period.

3. Target Pests:
Profenophos 50% EC effectively controls a wide range of sucking, chewing, and mite pests, including:

  • Sucking pests:

    • Aphids (Aphididae)

    • Jassids (Empoasca spp.)

    • Whiteflies (Bemisia tabaci)

    • Thrips (Thripidae)

  • Chewing pests:

    • Caterpillars (Spodoptera litura, Helicoverpa armigera)

    • Leaf-eating beetles (Coleoptera)

    • Bollworms (Helicoverpa spp.)

  • Mites:

    • Red spider mites (Tetranychus urticae)

    • Yellow mites (Polyphagotarsonemus latus)

    • Broad mites (Tarsonemidae)

  • Leaf miners

  • Diamondback moths

  • Leaf folders

Ovicidal and acaricidal action:
Profenophos controls all life stages of mites (eggs, nymphs, and adults), making it highly effective for mite management in various crops.

    • Profenophos degrades slowly, providing long residual activity.

  • Pollinator safety:

    • Avoid spraying during bloom periods to protect bees.

  • Low leaching potential:

    • Low risk of groundwater contamination when applied properly.

Conclusion:
Profenophos 50% EC is a broad-spectrum organophosphate insecticide and acaricide with contact, stomach, and ovicidal action, making it highly effective against sucking, chewing, and mite pests.
